Top Of Mammoth Mountain, Wedding Venue
Standing at 11,000 feet surrounded by 360 degrees of breathtaking views just might be the most memorable wedding experience. This is what the Top of Mammoth Mountain offers. Imagine taking in those final deep breaths as you ride up the gondola, soaring over cliffs on the way to your wedding ceremony. You then exit out of the top station and begin your walk down the aisle, in awe of the beauty that surrounds you. It’s completely surreal. It is truly an experience like none other.
Yes, you read the correct, the Top of Mammoth Mountain is available for wedding ceremonies. When everything lines up, nothing could be better. With that said, it would be unfair for me to leave out the logistics of having a ceremony on a mountain top.
First, is the elevation. It is not uncommon for older guests coming from sea level to feel unwell from the altitude. It can happen to someone like me or you as well. It is highly recommended to spend 2-3 days in Mammoth before the ceremony to help acclimate. It is extremely important to stay hydrated, and take it easy on the alcohol. If you have never drank alcohol at this elevation, let me tell you that it hits different (harder). Especially at 11,000 feet. So, just be aware of that.
The second, and most important logistic is mother nature. You need to have a backup plan (usually mid chalet/McCoy Station) when planning for a summit ceremony. Snow and blizzard conditions are an obvious factor, but don’t forget about wind. Winds at the top of the mountain can easily reach speeds of 70mph. It is entirely possible for the weather at the top to flip within hours of your ceremony. I am not in anyway trying to detour you from a mountain top ceremony. I just want to help you manage your expectations and help you be prepared and have the most seamless day possible.
As I said, when everything lines up, it’s absolutely incredible. Not only do you have majestic views surrounding you, you also get a glimpse of the last light of day as the sun falls behind the mountains. You’ll be viewing the sunset from the best vantage point in the area and it can be a photo session that you’ll never forget. From there, you can head on down to your reception at McCoy Station, Parallax, or even The Mill.
